What to Expect During Your Intraoral Scan

An intraoral scan usually takes just a few minutes. Our team guides a small wand over your teeth while the iTero scanner builds a 3D model on the screen in front of you. There’s no goopy impression material, so it’s a comfortable option for patients with a strong gag reflex. Afterward, we take a few close-up intraoral photos of your teeth and gums.

Dr. Khanani reviews the scan and photos with you, pointing out worn areas, chips, gum recession or shifting teeth so you can see what she sees. The same digital model can be used to plan Invisalign aligners, design a crown or bridge, or make a custom nightguard, and it’s stored with your records so we can compare changes over time.
